The Utah Department of Health is asking residents to give the gift of hearing this holiday season by donating their used hearing aids. The devices will go to hearing-impaired children and their families who cannot afford to purchase new hearing aids.

According to the department, many people have usable hearing hearing aids that are not being worn. With a little cleaning and testing, those same aids can go to children 18 years or younger from financially needy families. Audiologists fit the devices on the children, as well as make minor repairs, as needed.

To donate hearing aids or to qualify for recycled ones, call Katie Denter at 584-8218 or write to Hearing, Speech and Vision Services, 44 N. Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84112. Donated hearing aids are tax-deductible.
