Salt Lake County sheriff's investigators were looking Monday for clues in the slaying of a 75-year-old man whose body was found in a quarry in Parleys Canyon Sunday night.
Herbert Strehl was found tied up and shot in the head multiple times, deputy Peggy Faulkner said.
Detectives believed Strehl was killed between 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday, Faulkner said. Investigators were unsure Monday whether Strehl was killed in Parleys Canyon or his body was dumped there after he was slain.
About 8:15 p.m., police received a call from a passer-by who spotted the body near Ranch Exit 131.
Investigators believed those involved drove away in the victim's vehicle. Deputies were looking Monday for a gold or champagne-colored 2000 Jeep Cherokee with license plate 079HS.
Faulkner did not know Monday where Strehl had been prior to the slaying. He lived in the Olympus Cove area.
Robbery appears to be a motive in the crime, Faulkner said.
