In unrelated incidents, a man was found dead in a canal in west Salt Lake, and a woman was found dead in a stream in east Salt Lake County Saturday.
Dead are:
Catherine Chiago, 20, Mt. Olympus.
Earl Worlton, 74, Sandy.
Chiago was found in a stream off Millcreek Road at 3800 South and 3600 East at 4:30 p.m.
She was reported missing 11 p.m. Friday after she failed to report to work, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Rod Lowry.
Lowry said Chiago left her sister's house, where she was living, after a Wednesday night party where she had been drinking and had an argument.
The family didn't consider her leaving the house "something out of the ordinary," Lowry said. "They assumed she called a friend, went somewhere."
Authorities don't believe the death was intentional. "It just looks like an unfortunate set of circumstances," Lowry said.
Worlton's pickup was found in a ditch by a truck driver at 9 a.m. near 3230 West and 1700 South, Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott Peck said.
"The victim had driven off the end of a road and crashed in a canal," Peck said.
The road was a dead end, Peck said, and Worlton drove past signs indicating the road was about to end.
Worlton was not wearing a seat belt and died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
