Talking the talk

I caught an ad on TV the other night for a new show. The theme was: "Everyday questions. Really stupid answers."

Let me guess — it's all about locker room interviews.

Flip side

Since I'm an equal opportunity columnist, I'll give the NBA player point of view: Everyday answers to really stupid questions.

Common ground

Or maybe we could compromise. How about a new NBA slogan: Stupid Questions. Stupid Answers. I Love This Game.

Chump change

The Screen Actors Guild recently fined Tiger Woods $100,000 for filming a non-union Buick commercial last July during the strike against advertisers.

But half the fine was to be suspended if Tiger promised not to make any commercials during future strikes.

I'm guessing a $50,000 fine won't discourage him from doing more commercials whenever he wants.

The man keeps that much in his change tray.

Cool runnings

The ultimate indication LaVell Edwards has his act together?

When players tried to hoist him on their shoulders after beating Utah on Nov. 24, and securing a 6-6 season, he merely told them to put him down.

That's the thing about Edwards: He always made arriving at sensible conclusions look easy.

So how come he's not running for president?

Spin Doc

Interesting take Doc Rivers and Co. had on that final play in Orlando last week. They said the refs swallowed their whistles. But even more inflammatory was the claim that there weren't enough All-Stars on the Magic roster to get the benefit of the doubt.

The Jazz shrugged, saying there was no foul and Orlando was whining.

Who's right? It all depends how you interpret the play.

When did it get so hard to tell where politics leave off and sports begin?

End result

We'll know things have come full circle when they turn it over to the attorneys.

Record numbers

In case you haven't been watching, Karl Malone should pass Wilt Chamberlain on the all-time scoring list Tuesday. To do that, he had to take more than 20,000 shots in his career.

As I recall, Wilt had another record that involved the figure 20,000.

Of course, there was no official scorer keeping track of that.

Virtual reality

Looking at the postseason lineup, we have the Silicon Valley Classic, the Insight.com Bowl, the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl and the Micronpc.com Bowl.

Now tell me again — are these games going to be on TV or just CD-ROM?
