CEDAR CITY — About 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a commercial truck on the Southern Utah University campus Monday night.

Cedar City Police Cpl. Murray Suttlemyre said it was cleaned up in almost two hours. Hazardous materials specialists from Las Vegas are expected to oversee the disposal of the fuel, which was absorbed in dry, Kitty Litter-type material.

The accident happened about 8 p.m., Suttlemyre said. The truck driver was attending a tool expo on campus when he decided to move his truck.

Space was tight, Suttlemyre said, and the truck driver had to go over a curb to exit the lot. The curb punctured the truck's side tanks, spilling the fuel.

The fuel drained into the gutter, where it was contained. Suttlemyre said it did not get into the sewer.
