The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said it will distribute $842,687 in funds to Utah for feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless in nondisaster emergencies.

"Despite the amazing prosperity this county has enjoyed in recent years, there are still many who struggle to provide food and shelter for themselves and their families," Rick Weiland, director of FEMA's regional office in Denver, said. "These funds can provide warm nights in a shelter, keep homes heated in winter and provide healthy meals for children."

Local boards advertise the availability of the funds and decide priorities.
