A 14-year-old convicted of molesting and severely injuring a toddler at his mother's West Valley City day-care center will be released to his father, a 3rd District juvenile court judge has ruled.

The teenager has been in the custody of the Utah Division of Youth Corrections for about 18 months.

The transfer to his father's Anaheim, Calif., residence will likely occur in 90 days, after the teen works at a secure facility in Draper to pay off his victim restitution, said Carol Sisco, a spokeswoman for the Utah Division of Child and Family Services.

The teen was convicted of molesting a West Jordan's couple's 16-month-old daughter on Aug. 4, 1999.

The couple filed suit recently against the teen's mother, saying she failed to protect their daughter from her son.
