Jay R. Olson, age 83, died December 3, 2000 at the Evergreen Canyon Nursing Home in Salt Lake City from old age.

He was born April 20, 1917 in Indianola, Utah, son of John and Flossie Justison Olson. He married Alene Peterson Sept. 9, 1939. They were later divorced. He then married Bonnie Teresa Dawson June 16, 1963.

He was employed at Kennecott Smelter for 21 years retiring in 1976. During his retirement, he loved his many years as a school crossing guard. He enjoyed the children. The outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping was always special to him. He loved to share many stories of deer hunting.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie; three sons, Terry (Barbara) Olson of West Valley, Rodger (Lillian) Olson, and Neal (Linda) Olson of Tooele, Utah; one daughter, Kathy (Will) Croff of Appleton, WI; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Rex (Blanch) Olson of Murray, UT. Preceded in death by his parents and one sister Gwen Shepherd.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, 11 am, at the Wilford 2nd Ward, 3179 South Highland Drive(1450 East). Friends may call Wed. evening, from 6-8 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 So. 2300 E., and at the church on Thurs. for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary.
