The columns of Marianne M. Jennings are the most biased of any columnist in your paper, including your many other right-wing writers. The objectivity of the Deseret News as a news medium would be better served by eliminating her column. Then at least some of your readers would not suffer indigestion by being exposed to her vituperation. She uses distortion, questionable histories, vitriolic words and cliches borrowed from far-right Republicans to fill her columns.
She reached a new low in her latest column (published on Nov. 27) attacking Vice President Gore, especially for his post-election behavior. In comparison with his opponent, who has demonstrated his lightweight abilities shored up by his father's cronies, the vice president has shown restraint and statesmanship. Soon after the election, he offered to meet with Gov. Bush to have statewide recounts and an agreement to end any controversy following those recounts.
Bush's failure to respond to such a fair and reasonable request demonstrates his own attitude to have victory without a true determination of who really won the election. The slimy and vitriolic propaganda of the Republican Party since the election reminds me of the nasty misleading ads against Jim Matheson. Jennings' students are certainly short-changed if her classes are comparable to her unfair and unobjective columns which disregard ethical and objective standards.
