At 90, I should be in a rocking chair watching the world go by, but the events of the past year have really rocked my foundation. The Democratic Party, which I used to hold in some esteem, has completely shaken my belief in honest government.

The failure to impeach President Clinton is largely responsible for today's debacle. The defense strategy used in that effort was further improved upon by the use of false accusations, distortion of truth, innuendo, making white look black, etc., etc., through a "win at any cost" attitude on behalf of Vice President Al Gore in his race for the presidency.

Gore has sunk below the level of a professional gambler, who, upon entering a game, will sit down, inspect the deck of cards, discuss the rules of the game, then accept the outcome. Of course, if he cheated or tried to change the game before the last hand was dealt, he might be shot. Gore entered the race under the existing rules, known to all, but when it became evident the rules did not favor him, he made every effort to change the rules.

Gore may make a good president of the Democratic Party, but what is needed is a president of the United States. We should accept no less!
