Alpine
Luminaria kits go on sale between Dec. 19 and 22 for Alpine's annual "Light the Way." The Christmas Eve event lines the streets of Alpine with the glowing lanterns. The kits consist of candles set in sand in white paper sacks.
Each kit contains 32 white sacks, 32 long-burning candles (eight-10 hours) and instructions on how to get the maximum burn time, as well as the sand. The price per kit is $12. For more information call Alpine City Hall at 756-6347 or visit the Web site at www.luminaires.org.
American Fork
The American Fork Community Choir and the American Fork Children's Choir will perform Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in a combined Christmas Concert at Forbes Elementary School, 281 N. 200 East in American Fork.
A variety of popular and secular Christmas musical numbers will be on the program, with the children's choir directed by Laura Dunn and the community choir under the direction of Merrilee Barratt.
The public is invited.
Lehi
The Lehi High School Honor Society is seeking new, unwrapped toys for children and teenagers for its annual Toys for Tots Christmas charity drive. Toys for Tots is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps for needy local children.
Students have a collection box in the adviser's room at the high school (Classroom 6) or gifts can be given to Brenda Peterson or to any Honor Society student member.
Toys will be collected until Dec. 20.
Orem
The SCERA Encore Season will hold auditions for its production of Stephen Sondheim's musical fairy tale "Into the Woods," directed by Kathleen Nutt. The production will play from April 13 to May 7 at the SCERA Showhouse.
Auditions will be held at the SCERA Center, 745 S. State, Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 11 and 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. All parts are open. Men and women ages 18 to 50 are invited to audition. They should prepare 16 measures of two contrasting-style musical theater songs. Those auditioning are also encouraged to bring a resume and photo.

Payson
The City Council may vacate a planned street during its regular meeting tonight.
A neighbor is asking that the blocklong street right-of-way, 500 South, be abandoned to give up enough land to build a home. The right-of-way, identified only on a city map, is between 600 East and 700 East, a city planner said. The council meets at 6 p.m. in a study session, with the regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 439 W. Utah Ave.
Provo
The Utah Regional Ballet will perform "The Nutcracker" Dec. 8-16 at 7:30 p.m. at Brigham Young University's de Jong Concert Hall.
