Wells Allen Nielson, 72, of Orem, passed away at home December 4, 2000, of

complication of diabetes.

He was born January 15, 1928, to Ephraim Wells and Venetta Swensen Nielson in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. His boyhood home was in Moroni where he attended school and graduated from Moroni High School. He served an LDS Mission to the North Western States from 1947 to 1949. This mission became the basis of his life of learning and service. Allen began higher education at LDS Business College. He married Maurine Schofield October 11, 1950 in the Manti Temple. He served three years in the military during the Korean Conflict. He then graduated from Snow College and then from BYU with a composite major. Further education earned his certificates in administration and counseling. Allen sought his education with the purpose of serving and helping others to which he devoted the rest of his life. He taught and counseled at Orem High School for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He volunteered many hours of service in AEA, UEA, UPGD, UVGA and retired school employees. As a member of the Utah National Guard, he served as company commander in Mt. Pleasant, Nephi and Provo.

He also graduated from Command and General Staff College and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel Allen was always actively involved in civic service, volunteering his time and efforts to many different organizations including Orem City Library, Family Life Conference, The Gathering Place and Alpine Credit Union. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Ward and Stake Young Mens President, Stake Sunday School President, Home Teacher, teacher in auxiliaries, Ward and Financial Clerks, BYU Bishop and Counselor in MTC Branch Presidencies. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family. His family meant everything to him.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maurine, and his five children; Aline (Craig) Nielsen, West Point, Utah; Gerry (Linda), Steven (Michelle) all of Orem; Brian (Debbie), American Fork and David (Lori) of South Jordan; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Jensen, Moroni and Ellna (Ernel) Anderson, Orem and brother, Burke (Dixie) of Moroni and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sharon 2nd Ward Chapel, 641 South 400 East.

Friends may call at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
