Anne's advice to parents considering an overseas trip with a young child:

1. Don't be too fearful; with planning, a reasonably good-natured baby is a good traveler.

2. For a baby, take a familiar toy, but for older children, take a new toy or book or two; buy one to bring home.

3. Don't take anything round that can roll away on a plane.

4. Don't plan to read on the plane.

5. Anticipate weather needs and the availability of more food, so the baby doesn't get cold, hungry or sunburned.

6. Don't expect a baby to conform to adult schedules.

7. Don't hope for a wonderful culinary experience.

8. Ask friends for tips.
