William Cropper Ashby died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at his home in Chattanooga, TN., at the age of 86.

Will was a native of American Fork and had been a resident of Chattanooga since 1961. He worked for DuPont for 34 years living in Bridgeport, CT, Wil-mington, DE, and Chattanooga, TN as a design and development engineer. DuPont awarded him their highest engineering title of "Engineering Specialist".

Many of his inventions have been patented. Mr. Ashby was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in district and stake presidencies, bishoprics and branch presidencies and filled four full-time missions to France, Haitian Florida, Mauritius and Tennessee. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Card Ashby; his children, William Card (Jessie Claire Wagstaff) Ashby of Omaha, NE, Arda Ruth (Dr. Ian R.) Shields of BC, Canada, Erin K. Ashby of Troy, AL, (Sylvia Brady Ashby of American Fork), Eric (Florence Pratt) Ashby of Chattanooga, TN, and Dr. Eda V. Ashby of Rexburg, ID; his siblings, Mary A. Porter and Eda A. Bingham of Provo and Dr. Richard L. Ashby of Orem; 25 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9th at 12 noon in the American Fork 8th Ward, 310 No. 100 E., where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, American Fork Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Anderson and Sons Mortuary.
