On Nov. 17, J.R. Butler (Bluffdale) wrote a letter to the editor, "Running program misguided."

A couple of thoughts: First, from Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: when he is old, he will not depart from it." Second, President John F. Kennedy said: "Physical fitness is the basis of all other forms of excellence."

With skyrocketing obesity rates among the U.S. adolescent population and the cutting back of required physical education class requirements in our public schools, I applaud the teachers who have implemented the "morning running program" at Bluffdale Elementary School.
