FRONTERA, Calif. (AP) — A woman who shot an abusive boyfriend to death during a domestic dispute has been released from prison, three months after becoming the first murderer granted parole by Gov. Gray Davis.

Rose Ann Parker, 41, was found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting Arthur Boga in the back in March 1986 after she said he ordered her at gunpoint to have an abortion and threatened to kill her and her son. She was released Thursday.

Davis approved her parole in September, citing "extraordinary and compelling circumstances" and a battered women's syndrome law that took effect after her conviction. He required that she serve out her minimum sentence with time off for good behavior before being released.
