SANDY — It's been an interesting region season for the up-and-down Alta Hawks, but Wednesday night they got a huge victory.

Alta's Cory Wardle hit a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime and then the Hawks played solid defense in the extra session to pull off the upset of third-ranked Mountain View, 64-61.

Wardle, the Hawks' sparkplug point guard, finished the game with 24 points and teammate Garn Smith added 16.

Junior Dan Henry topped the Bruins with 21 points and Seth Scott chipped in 15.

REGION 3

JORDAN 59, OREM 53: Bryan Isaac and Craig Broadhead tallied 14 points a piece as the Beetdiggers remained in first place in league thanks to Mountain View's loss. Jordan travels to the Bruins' den on Friday for a big region showdown.

BRIGHTON 71, HILLCREST 26: Eleven Bengals scored, including 17 from Garner Meads and 11 from Mark Mawhinney, as Brighton cruised past the Huskies.

REGION 7

OGDEN 60, MORGAN 57: G.E. Burningham hit a half-courter at the buzzer as the Tigers stunned the Trojans. Burningham led all scorers with 19 points while teammate Doc Luke chipped in 14.

BEN LOMOND 66, GRANITE 38: Nick Dean led Ben Lomond to the easy victory as he totaled 14 points while teammate Casey Doolan added 13 points and four assists.

TOOELE 59, BEAR RIVER 49: The Buffaloes's Andrew Goss tallied 18 points as Tooele handed Bear River its first region loss of the season. Justin Cole led the Bears with 13 points.

REGION 8

CARBON 64, NORTH SANPETE 58: Four players scored in double-figures as Dinos protected their home turf.

EMERY 64, DELTA 54: Brad Stilson and Steven Ewell each fired in 20 points to lead the Spartans to the victory. Emery nailed nine of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to preserve the win and its perfect record.

REGION 9

HURRICANE 64, PINE VIEW 58 (OT): The visiting Tigers improved to 2-5 in league play with an upset over the Panthers (4-3).

CANYON VIEW 51, DIXIE 40: The Falcons jumped out to a 24-14 first-half lead and never looked back in knocking off the Flyers. Canyon View's Nate Janes led all scorers with 17 points.

SNOW CANYON 48, CEDAR CITY 40: Jake Ellison connected on 8-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter as he tallied 13 points in leading the Warriors to a critical victory over the Redmen.

REGION 10

UINTAH 75, UNION 69: The Utes used a 23-8 third-quarter run to escape Union's upset bid. Derek Sutton led Uintah with 20 points on four 3-pointers and teammate Jordan Brady added 18.

PARK CITY 57, WASATCH 49: Brennen Jones notched 22 points on five 3-pointers as the Miners captured the big region win. Ben Rjamaki added 17 points for Park City.

CLASS 2A NORTH

ROWLAND HALL 61, SOUTH SUMMIT 58: The Winged Lions hit 9-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off a late rally by the Wildcats. David Sandberg, Ryan Olson and Chris Andrews combined to score 43 of Rowland Hall's 61 points.

NORTH SUMMIT 72, JUAN DIEGO 55: Landon Judd and Kevin Louder each netted 14 points as the Braves kept Juan Diego winless on the season.

CLASS 2A CENTRAL

SOUTH SEVIER 52, JUAB 51: Aaron Owens tipped in a shot with six seconds remaining as the Rams upset the Wasps.

MANTI 65, GUNNISON 51: The Templars used a 14-4 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Bulldogs. Brady Nielsen and Cameron Clark combined to scored 33 points.

CLASS 2A SOUTH

BEAVER 61, KANAB 42: Craig Foster recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds while teammate Matt Albrecht added 15 points and seven assists in leading Beaver to the victory.

PAROWAN 53, ENTERPRISE 49 (OT): Jessee Claussee hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in regulation as Enterprise sent the game into overtime, but it wasn't enough as Parowan pulled away in overtime as Andy Osborn and Sam Seymour made some key baskets. Jason Pendleton had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Parowan.

REGION 14

WEST RIDGE 70, WASATCH ACADEMY 46: Justin Johnson's 19 points led the fighting Eagles to the easy victory over the Tigers.

REGION 17

S.L. LUTHERAN 64, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 31: Mike Williams torched the nets for 26 points on eight 3-pointers and teammate Nate Morris added 25 as the Lynx routed Layton Christian.

ICS 68, MOUNT VERNON 64: James DeVore netted 22 points for the victorious Lions.

WATERFORD 74, S.L. CHRISTIAN 46: The Wolves blew open a 30-28 halftime game in running away with an easy win over the Dragon Slayers. Ben Wade led all scorers with 18 while teammate Rob Young added 14.

NONREGION

DUCHESNE 57, TABIONA 45: The Eagles overcame a sluggish first quarter, and Chris Hoopes and Courtney Moon combined to score 26 points to lead Duchesne to the nonregion win.
