SPRINGVILLE -- City officials are asking residents what they think about constructing a new public works building.
Springville proposes to build a new facility on property it owns at about 400 West and 900 North. The $1.9 million facility would combine operations of several city departments currently spread out all over town.City Administrator Cameron Gunter said the new building would not involve a tax increase. Funds for the building would come from sale of property the city owns and revenues from the city's current and future electric and sewer budgets
Gunter said combining operations at one location could save the city about $125,000 per year. It also would improve communication and allow for sharing of equipment and manpower, city officials say.
Currently, most of the city's public works operation is housed at a facility on 400 South. A fueling station and mechanic shop are located at 1400 N. Main and large materials are stored south of downtown.
The city's power generation facility and water treatment plant are located near the proposed site for the public works building. The city has not yet called for bids for construction of the facility, but it plans to do so soon. Springville hopes the proposed building could be finished within a year.
Residents are invited to give feedback to the City Council or a member of the city staff.
