NEW YORK (AP) -- Heating oil prices continued to surge in commodity trading Friday on a combination of cold temperatures in the northeast and tight supplies.

Crude oil, natural gas and gasoline also shot higher on the New York Mercantile Exchange.Heating oil contracts for March delivery gained 0.88 cent to close at 78.78 cents a gallon on the Nymex, bringing its gains since Tuesday to 6 percent.

Unleaded gasoline for March delivery has enjoyed similar gains, rising 1.27 cents Friday to 79.83 cents a gallon. March natural gas was up 8.3 cents at $2.742 per 1,000 cubic feet.

The March contract for Light, sweet crude oil rose 79 cents to $28.82 a barrel on the Nymex.
