STANFORD, Calif — A Silicon Valley executive who was beaten into a coma at a karaoke bar in China has died, two days after he was brought home aboard a chartered medical plane.

Chinese officials said Steven Leung, 52, was attacked by an employee of the bar in Beijing after he harassed a hostess. His family has disputed the allegation.

Leung's sister-in-law, Charlotte Imoto, said he died Thursday.

"We're all devastated and hope that the people who did this would be caught and brought to justice," she said.

Leung was flown to the United States on a respirator Tuesday.

The bar manager and the hostess remain in custody.

Leung, who immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong in the 1960s and lived in San Jose, founded several successful high-tech businesses.

Leung's family said he had gone to Asia to line up customers for his latest venture, Emvix Communications Inc., a developer of telecommunications products. He was president of Emvix and chairman of Scenix Semiconductor Inc.
