ATLANTA — Steve Smith, returning to the city where he starred for five years, scored 21 points as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Atlanta Hawks 97-90 Friday night.

The Hawks fought back to tie it six times in the final quarter before taking their first and only lead, 78-77, on Dikembe Mutombo's hook with 3:47 remaining.

But Portland scored on 11 of its last 12 possessions to bury Atlanta. Smith got loose along the baseline and scored with 1:23 remaining to give the Blazers an 86-82 lead.

Jim Jackson, who came to Atlanta along with Isaiah Rider in the trade that sent Smith to Portland before the season, scored 25 points to lead the Hawks. Rider had 10 points.

PACERS 104, KINGS 94: At Indianapolis, Mark Jackson had 15 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds for his 16th career triple-double as Indiana beat Sacramento to tie the club record of 17 straight home victories.

Jalen Rose led Indiana with 22 points and Rik Smits had 18. Reggie Miller added 14, including the 1,800th 3-pointer of his career. Pacers forward Dale Davis broke his nose in the first half.

Chris Webber led Sacramento with 26 points.

HEAT 99, WIZARDS 92: At Miami, Alonzo Mourning scored 22 of his 32 points in the second half as Miami rallied to beat Washington.

Mitch Richmond led Washington with 21 points.

TIMBERWOLVES 102, ROCKETS 85: At Minneapolis, Kevin Garnett had 23 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists as Minnesota routed Houston. Garnett tied Christian Laettner's club record with 17 defensive rebounds.

Bryce Drew, starting in place of rookie star Steve Francis, led the Rockets with a career-best 20 points. Francis missed the trip so he could get treatment for a minor hernia.

CELTICS 100, NETS 95: At Boston, Kenny Anderson made a short jumper to give Boston the lead, then added two free throws as the Celtics beat New Jersey, extending the Nets' losing streak to six games.

Paul Pierce had 19 points and Vitaly Potapenko added 16 for the Celtics, who improved to 17-7 at home and snapped a two-game losing streak. Stephon Marbury had 20 points and 11 assists for the Nets.

PISTONS 105, CAVALIERS 96: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Lindsey Hunter had 26 points and 10 assists in Detroit's victory over Cleveland.

Jerry Stackhouse added 22 points to help the Pistons to their second victory in 10 games. Shawn Kemp led Cleveland with 22.

GRIZZLIES 101, BULLS 76: At Vancouver, Michael Dickerson scored 20 points as Vancouver routed Chicago in the Grizzlies' most decisive victory in their five-year history.

Mike Bibby added 16 points for the Grizzlies, whose biggest previous victory margin was 20 in a 109-89 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 14. Vancouver also beat the Bulls for the first time in eight career meetings.

Toni Kukoc had 27 points for the Bulls, an NBA-worst 9-35.

WARRIORS 103, NUGGETS 101: At Oakland, Antawn Jamison led Golden State to victory with 19 points.

SUPERSONICS 94, SUNS 86: At Seattle, Gary Payton scored 23 points and Vin Baker added 22 as Seattle topped Phoenix.
