Mary Viva Skousen (Bluth) Brown passed away peacefully on March 10, 2000, in Provo, Utah, at age 92, following a very short illness. She was admired, loved and truly adored by all who knew her. She devoted her entire life to blessing and serving her dear family and friends, although she had not a few losses and heartbreaks of her own.

Born to Daniel Skousen and Sarah Ann Spilsbury Skousen in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, on September 16, 1907. She was raised in the Mormon colonies. She married Lothaire E. Bluth in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 12, 1929, and later divorced. She studied and taught music at Brigham Young University and at Weber State College and then returned to the "colonies" to teach at her beloved JSA. She subsequently taught in the Mesa, Arizona School District. She married E.D. Brown in Farmington, New Mexico and they were later sealed in the Mesa LDS Temple. They enjoyed 12 years of happiness and companionship. He passed away in 1968.Viva's last 30 years were spent in Provo, Utah, to be near her sons and BYU Athletics. Sometimes, in jest, we wondered which ones she loved more! Her neighbors, her friends, her bishops, and her memories - along with a myriad of past schoolmates, friends, students, and family members - kept her life full. She had more enthusiasm, more energy, more strength and love of life than any 10 others. She served a mission with her sister in Guatemala, and has been a Provo LDS Temple worker. Most of her family and Mexican associates will gladly join her (and us) in shouting "Viva Mexico!" Almost as many would also enjoy her Utah vanity license plates that say "Viva-BYU!" But all of us will unanimously and without ceasing, shout in our loudest voices, "Viva Viva!"

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday March 15, 2000 at the Edgemont South Stake Center/Edgemont 12th Ward, 2950 North Canyon Road, Provo. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, Tuesday evening March 14, or 9:45 a.m. at the chapel on Wednesday. Interment, Mesa Cemetery, Mesa, AZ.
