ATLANTA -- Ryan Smyth scored all three goals in the third period and Tommy Salo got his second shutout of the season as the Edmonton Oilers ended a four-game losing streak, 3-0 over the reeling Atlanta Thrashers on Monday night.
The Thrashers have lost nine in a row and 21 of their last 22 games. Their record since a Jan. 14 victory over Philadelphia is 1-23-2.The game was scoreless after two periods, quite an accomplishment for Atlanta after losing its last two games by a combined 14-1.
Doug Weight assisted on two goals and Salo made 24 saves.
DEVILS 3, PENGUINS 2: At Pittsburgh, the Devils, in a scoring slump for more than a month, twice opened two-goals leads, winning on Bobby Holik's goal off a Penguins player's skate.
New Jersey had scored more than two goals only twice in 12 games before taking a 3-1 lead in the second period.
Holik scored the winner at 17:36 of the second, stealing the puck near the blue line and shooting it off Penguins forward Ian Moran's blade as Moran skated across the crease.
STARS 4, RANGERS 3: At New York , Jamie Langenbrunner had two goals and Mike Modano extended his point streak to a career-high 10 games.
Langenbrunner's second goal with 8:17 left, set up by Modano, broke a 3-3 tie. The Stars won for the 31st straight time on the road when they score at least three goals.
Manny Fernandez, playing his fourth consecutive game in place of Ed Belfour, made 30 saves for his second win in as many days. Fernandez, who hadn't made consecutive starts all season, is 2-2 since Belfour left the team following his arrest on assault charges. He is expected to rejoin the Stars on Tuesday and be available to play Wednesday night at New Jersey.
KINGS 3, CANUCKS 2 (OT): At Los Angeles, Jozef Stumpel scored a disputed goal with 1:07 left in overtime and set up Los Angeles' other two goals.
Rob Blake and Ziggy Palffy also scored, helping the Kings leap over Phoenix into fifth place in the Western Conference and extend their unbeaten streak against Vancouver to 5-0-1.
SHARKS 5, FLAMES 3: At San Jose, Calif., Owen Nolan and Vincent Damphousse each had a goal and two assists for San Jose.
The Flames took an early 2-0 lead, but the Sharks tied the game by the end of the first period. Damphousse then gave San Jose a 3-2 lead at 3:35 of the second when he scored from the right circle on a rebound.
FLYERS 4, COYOTES 1: At Phoenix, Keith Primeau scored twice and John LeClair and Valeri Zelepukin also connected for the Flyers, who won for the ninth time in 13 games. Lyle Odelein scored the lone goal for the Coyotes.
