Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 15, for Robert W. "Bob" Adams, 63, South Salt Lake fire chief for 20 of his 45 years as a firefighter for the city.
Mr. Adams, who was a past president and secretary of the Utah State Firemen's Association, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at LDS Hospital of cancer. At the time of his death he was South Salt Lake fire marshal and emergency manager.The services will be held at 11 a.m. at the South Cottonwood LDS Stake Center, 1250 E. 4800 South (Murray-Holladay Road). Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Adams was born in Salt Lake City. He earned an associate degree in fire science management from what what is now Utah Valley State College and an associate degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He was a non-commissioned officer in the Utah Air National Guard for nine years. He was a high priest, a youth leader and ward clerk in the South Cottonwood 7th Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Hundreds of firefighters and about 50 pieces of fire apparatus will be part of the funeral procession for Mr. Adams, whose body will be transported one last time through the city he loved. The funeral procession will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. at 4800 South and 1300 East.
