CENTERVILLE --Lavina Smith Chettle, 90, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2000 in Bountiful, of causes incident to age.
She was born September 13, 1909 in Ogden, a daughter of Frank H. and Bertha Smith Smith. She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. Lavina married Earl Vincent Chettle in 1936. Vincent died in December of 1990. She was a member of the LDS Church where she was active in Relief Society.Lavina was employed at the Elks Club, Ogden Chamber of Commerce, Bureau of Reclamation and the Utah State Legislature.
She was active in the Democratic Party most of her life. She served as the National Committeewoman for Young Democrats and was secretary to Salt Lake County Commissioner Bill Larson.
Lavina was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. Everyone who came in contact knows what a special person she was. Lavina will be remembered for her integrity, sense of humor, wisdom, love for her family, pleasant demeanor, selflessness and wonderful cooking.
Surviving are her children, Brent W. (Connie) Chettle, Northridge, Calif.; Robert G. Chettle, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Dianne Samuelson, Kaysville; seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lavina was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one grandson.
