I am a junior at Hunter High School in the Granite School District. I am upset over the teacher walkout staged Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. I do not understand how walking out for a day helps a student's education. How can putting a student's education on hold help them? I personally am not disappointed with my education. I thought my opinion mattered as much as my parents. I do agree that funding would help for textbooks, etc. But why can't the Granite Education Association be satisfied with what they got?

I think that the GEA just wanted a reason to strike, no matter what. In my opinion I think that the reason why the GEA isn't satisfied with the new budget is because Granite is a very large and powerful district. The Granite District needs to be divided. I think we would not have a teacher walkout on our hands if Granite District was half the size it is. The only reason why it is a big problem now is because it is such a big district, and it does have such an impact. To me, this walkout was a game. This strike didn't help anyone and never will.
