S.L. County narrows field to 3, may select library director soon

Salt Lake County could have a new library director within the next few weeks -- or even possibly next week.

The search for a director has been narrowed to three people from among 14 who initially submitted applications. Of that number, seven were interviewed by telephone and three in person, county Human Services Director Kerry Steadman said Thursday. He said the three were interviewed earlier this week by a majority of the members of the Salt Lake County Library Board."I'm thinking that within a week we'll have a recommendation for a director. It's then up to the board" to make the appointment, Steadman said. The board will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, in Whitmore Library, 2197 E. Fort Union Blvd. (7000 South).

The board agenda notes that the board may go into executive session to discuss personnel matters.

The library directorship has been vacant since Eileen B. Longsworth left her post last December to accept leadership over the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Public Library in New Mexico.

Terry Hogan, associate director of human services, has been serving as acting director of the Salt Lake County Library System. The library system falls within the administrative umbrella of Human Services.
