Mitsubishi clinging to its identity despite DaimlerChrysler deal

TOKYO (AP) -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. President Katsuhiko Kawasoe said Tuesday that he remains firmly in charge despite DaimlerChrysler AG's acquisition of a 34 percent stake in the Japanese automaker.

"It's not as if we're going to be swallowed up by DaimlerChrysler," Kawasoe said after a joint press conference in Tokyo with DaimlerChrysler chairman Juergen Schrempp.
