DELTA -- A Hinckley woman died Monday after the car in which she was riding was struck by a truck.

Killed was:Lavina Perkins, 86, Hinckley.

Perkins was a passenger in the car of her daughter, Maurline Williams, 64, also of Hinckley. They were northbound on 5000 West just north of Delta about 10 a.m. when a pickup truck careened through the intersection at 1500 North and collided head-on with Williams' sedan, according to the Millard County Sheriff's Office. The sedan spun around and rolled, coming to rest in an irrigation ditch.

The driver of the pickup, Martin Rodriguez, 37, Hinckley, told police his brakes failed short of the intersection and he attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the car, the release states. The pickup was only travelling about 15 mph, but the sedan was traveling at about 50 mph.

Perkins, Williams and Rodriguez were all wearing seat belts.
