Doris Hodgkinson Strong, 71, of Springville passed away March 2, 2000.
She was born Nov. 19, 1928 in Vernal, UT, to Louis Martin and Mary Armina Haws Hodgkinson. At age 18, she married Fred J. Strong and his four children. Doris graduated from Uintah High and attended various classes at BYU. She graduated in nursing at UVSC at age 54 while working full time. She liked all sports and was table tennis champ for two years at UVSC. She worked as a telephone operator, waitress, recreational aid of Timp. HC and worked at Utah Valley Hospital as a nurse's aid. Doris served many positions in the LDS Church, the last being a temple worker. She took best of show for a rug at the county fair in '96 and always made quilts and other crafts. Doris did many favors for friends, family and neighbors.
She is survived by Jeanette Swasey (George), Duchesne; Eddie Strong (Georgene), Orem; Shirlene Sorenson (Carl), Midvale; Margy Helms (Alan), Oregon; Martin Strong (Esther), Spanish Fork; Nellouise Wilson (Ed) Wyoming; George Strong, Springville; Gordon Strong (Kathi), Spanish Fork; Mary Balch (sister), Grant Hodgkinson (brother), Rayola Andersen (sister); 48 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Nancy and Peggy; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Springville 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 455 South Main, Springville. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville or at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
