NEW YORK -- More than a third of the National Hockey League's teams favor expanding the Stanley Cup playoffs from 16 to 20 teams, perhaps as early as next season.

In a poll of the NHL's 30 teams conducted by Bloomberg News -- including presidents, general managers and coaches -- 11 favor the change, 10 say they're seriously considering it, three are for keeping the current format, and six declined to comment.The clubs say they want to increase revenue and the percentage of teams making the playoffs while maintaining the competitive balance of the regular season.
