DELTA- Jack William Fowles, age 74, died April 10, 2000 in Delta, Utah.

He was born December 19, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Irvin William and Bessie Lenora Tolley Fowles. He married Anna Zoe Porter November 17, 1951 in the Manti LDS Temple. Jack was educated in Salt Lake City where he graduated from South High School, Westminster College, and received his MA from Brigham Young University. Jack proudly served his country for three years during World War II.He spent his adult life in Delta. Jack worked as a teacher, counselor, high school principal and Director of the Delta Technical Center for the Millard School District. He was tenacious in his efforts to improve education. He loved Delta High School. His community is a better place because of him. He served as the Lions Club President, Millard County Credit Union Vice President, President of Oasis Seed Coop, on the hospital board and various other boards. He received the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce Area Giant Award in 1987.

As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jack served as Elders and High Priest Leader, Bishop's Counselor, On the High Council, and as Bishop of the Delta Fourth Ward. He also served as a Temple ordinance worker at Manti.

Jack's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and his loving sweetheart of 49 years. Despite many health problems throughout his life he remained eternally optimistic and fought the good fight.

Jack is survived by his wife: Zoe Porter Fowles, Delta, Utah; sons and daughters: Paul (Lenore) Fowles, Dean (Deb) Fowles, David (Kris) Fowles, Diane (Jeff) George, all of Delta, Utah; Elizabeth Coombs, Payson, Utah; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sisters: JoAnn (Boyd) Smith, Salt Lake City, Utah; Patsy (Bob) Fife, Elk Grove, California; Richard (Roselyn) Fowles, Salt Lake City, Utah; sister-in-law: Heather Fowles, Bountiful, Utah. He was preceded in death by son: Douglas Fowles; brothers: Paul, Donald, Gerald Fowles; grandson: Jessie Fowles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 15, 2000 at 10 a.m. in the Sutherland Ward Chapel, 3120 W. 2600 North, Delta, UT. Friends may call at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center, Delta, UT on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday at the Church from 9-10:40 a.m. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery.
