CLEARFIELD, UT-- Pete Kallas, age 82, died of congestive heart failure at Davis Hospital and Medical Center on April 10, 2000.

Pete was born in Ogden, Utah on September 20, 1917 a son of James Kallas and Duly Economakis Kallas. He was a life long resident of Layton and Clearfield, Utah.Prior to being inducted in the U.S. Army in 1942, he worked as a farmer and truck driver. Pete served his country honorable as a Technical Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater and received several battle stars for combat duty in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He served under General's Patton and Clark in the 760th Tank Battalion.

After being honorable discharged from the Army in 1945, he worked for Oceanographics, Dept. Of the Navy, retiring with a Sustained Superior Performance Award in 1973. Pete was admired and loved by those who knew him. He was an honest and gentle person and showed his respect to everyone. In his younger days he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a very devoted uncle to his nephews and nieces who gave them his constant support. He was also a devoted member and steward of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Pete is survived by his brother, Gus Kallas of Clearfield; his sisters, Helen Horrocks of Ogden; and Katherine Bapis of Midvale. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Nick Kallas and Mike Kallas.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration, 674 42nd Street in South Ogden. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, April 13, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist Memorial Park at Layton, where Military Honors will be accorded.
