Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Leone Elizabeth Nelson Stewart passed away peacefully on April 11, 2000, just before her 84th birthday.
Born April 16, 1916 in Thornton, Idaho, the eldest daughter to James Reid and Fannie Leona Pierce Nelson.She grew up in Idaho, served a Southern States mission, put herself through Ricks College by working summers at the Madison River Camp near Yellowstone Park. She earned a teaching degree and taught school in Lyman, Idaho. During World War II she moved to Ogden where she worked at the arms plant. While teaching in Ogden she met Kenneth Stewart they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple March 25, 1946. She loved the Lord and served faithfully in several teaching and music positions in the LDS Church. She loved genealogy work and was a temple worker.
Her husband preceded her in death. Mom loved music and taught all her children to play the piano. She liked to try new recipes on her family and was a seamstress and talented gardener. She worked in her yard the day before she died. She had a thirst for learning and self-improvement. She always worked hard, never forgot birthdays, looked forward to family get-togethers, loved walking with her friend, Marie Hynes. We will always remember her selfless love and the lessons she taught us. We'll miss you dearly.
She is survived by children: Colleen (Ray) Welte; Ogden, (Sue) Stewart; Arla (Steve) Rosso; Danna Wagoner; six grandchildren: Andy, Tom, Donovan, Paul, Trina, and Jayne; brothers and sister: Marion Reid, Merlin Nelson, Leatrice Hunsaker, Jean Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17, 2000, 12 Noon at the Kearns 16th LDS Ward Chapel, 5025 W. 4865 So. Friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road, and Monday one hour prior to services at the church.
