The man police arrested in connection with a bizarre stabbing and public nudity incident was formally charged in 3rd District Court Friday.
David Campbell, 33, Kearns, was charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; four counts of attempted murder, a second degree felony and one count of criminal mischief, a third-degree felony.Court documents state that Campbell and his brother visited a neighbor's home on Monday night. According to witnesses, after Campbell's brother left the home, Campbell removed his clothing and ran outside naked, where he jumped on the hood of visitor's car and smashed in the windshield.
When Campbell tried to gain re-entry, the residents locked him outside. After breaking down the door, charges state Campbell stabbed his brother in the back, then attempted to stab a 3-year-old child inside the home. When the child's mother intervened, he stabbed her in the shoulder and back, the charges state. He then stabbed another woman who also tried to intervene breaking the blade off in the her back, the charges state.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner said police still have not developed a clear motive for the attack.
Campbell, who was injured in the incident, has been incarcerated in the Salt Lake County Jail since he was released from the hospital Tuesday. His bail has been set at $500,000. If convicted he faces up to life in prison for aggravated burglary, and 1-15 years in prison for each of the four counts of attempted murder.
