Getting there: Take I-5 (a k a the Santa Ana Freeway) and follow the signs to Disneyland. Freeway construction there will remind you of Salt Lake's I-15. Orange Cal Trans signs encourage you to exit at Lincoln Avenue, which takes you along a makeshift frontage road to the Disneyland parking lot. But you'll still get there if you exit at Harbor Boulevard. The freeway exit that's under construction will take you to Disneyland's new multi-story parking lot that's scheduled to open next year.
Construction alert: A new theme park, Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, is under construction in what used to be the Disneyland parking lot. The new park, along with a new resort hotel, is scheduled to open next year. In the meantime, signs direct park patrons to off-site parking lots. Trams shuttle passengers to and from the parking lots to the Main Gate.
Information: For the park, call 1-714-781-4565. To make reservations at the Disneyland Hotel or the Disneyland Pacific Hotel, call 1-714-956-6400. Information is also available at www.disneyland.com.
On-site information is available at Information Centers at City Hall and Central Plaza, where you'll find wait times for many of the attractions and parade times and showtimes for the day.
Room rates: The rate for a standard room can range from $170 to $235 a night, depending on availability. A room with a view of the pool or a room on the concierge floors is more expensive. You might get a better room rate if you book well in advance. For example, reserve now for an October stay.
Disneyland services include the Baby Care Center for preparing formulas, warming bottles and changing infants. Diaper machines and changing tables are available at most of the restrooms throughout the park. The Kennel Club is to the right of the Main Entrance. The charge is $10 a day. Food and water are provided, but the kennel will not keep Rover overnight.
A multitude of hotels surrounds the park. For information, check the Anaheim Orange County Web site at www.anaheimoc.org.
