MILWAUKEE -- Geoff Jenkins homered to cap a three-run eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat Atlanta 6-3 Saturday, the Braves' fourth loss in five games.

Quilvio Veras hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth that tied it at 3.But Mark Loretta, who had homered earlier, opened the Brewers' half with a double off reliever John Burkett (0-2). Jeromy Burnitz then hit a grounder under the glove of first baseman Andres Galarraga, with Loretta scoring on the error.

Jenkins followed with his third home run.

PIRATES 2, METS 0: At Pittsburgh, rookie Jimmy Anderson allowed five hits in eight innings and Kevin Young hit a two-run homer in the seventh as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets.

Anderson (1-0) gave up five earned runs in 4 1-3 innings to Arizona in his first start of last Saturday. He walked one, hit a batter and struck out five.

CUBS 4, MARLINS 2: At Chicago, rookie Scott Downs allowed four hits in seven innings for his first major league win as the Chicago Cubs took advantage of two Florida errors to beat the Marlins.

Mark Grace hit a sacrifice fly and two runs scored on miscues in a three-run first as the Cubs won for the fourth time in five games.

D'BACKS 7, GIANTS 4: At San Francisco, Kelly Stinnett hit two homers, including a three-run shot caught by a fan just as Barry Bonds was about to try for a leaping grab, and the Arizona Diamondbacks sent San Francisco to its seventh straight loss.

The Giants fell to 0-5 at new Pacific Bell Park.

REDS 5, DODGERS 4: At Los Angeles, Eddie Taubensee, batting cleanup for the first time since 1998, matched his career-high with four RBIs as Cincinnati beat Los Angeles.

Taubensee's two-run double off Alan Mills (0-1) in the seventh snapped a 3-3 tie.

PADRES 5, ASTROS 3: At San Diego, Al Martin hit a two-run homer and Woody Williams pitched a strong 7 1-3 innings and drove in a run.

Martin gave the Padres a 2-1 lead with a two-run shot to center off Jose Lima (1-2) in San Diego's four-run third inning. Damien Jackson followed with a solo home run.
