Our beloved mother, Norma Johanna Stokes Bracken, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 13, 2000, after an eight month struggle following a stroke in August. Her family is grateful for the opportunity of serv-ing her during this time. Appreciation is extended by the family to the staff at the Highland Care Center and the West Valley Home Health Care for the loving care given to their mother.

Born September 19, 1915, in Cleveland, Emery, Utah, to William D. and Helga M. Johnson Stokes. Married Ralph Bracken January 29, 1934, in Cleveland, Utah. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple February 26, 1948.Mom's love of God, family, and country was exemplified in her daily activities as she shared her many talents with others through service, teaching, gardening, poetry, quilts, handwork, and genealogy. Her insightful spirit and practical manner touched the lives of all those who love her and instilled in them a desire to make the world a better place by adding to her legacy and emulating her example. Her love of gardening brought her a title of "Garden Grandma" by her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Ralph LaVell and his wife Mary Jane; Mrs. Dean (Dorine) Ralph; and Mrs. Wally (Lana) Siple; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grand-children; sister, Mrs. Elwood (Joan) Ihler and brother, Lawrence Jay Stokes. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph; daughter, Belva; sisters, Lucille and Maude; brothers, Reed and Nolan.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17, 2000, 11 a.m. at the Hunter 11th Ward, 5000 Janette Avenue (3985 South). Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the ward one hour prior to services.
