I'm writing in response to the recent Associated Press article run in the Deseret News, "Columbine teacher in D.C. to aid gun bill."

I'd like to understand exactly how illegal Patti Nielson thinks we need to make it before criminals will stop committing crimes. These juvenile thugs already violated dozens of existing gun laws. Would violating one (or 10 or 100) more have stopped them? No.At the same time we have idiot school administrators who are suspending kindergartners for playing ("4 kindergartners suspended: played cops and robbers").

I have a better plan. Instead of punishing kindergartners, how about if we lock up criminals for the full term, take away their color TV and make them earn their way as they pay their debt to society? Put some teeth behind the existing laws instead of passing more laws that will be ignored by criminals.

I agree with one thing Nielson said, "There is no safe place; it can happen anytime, anywhere." Nothing Congress can do will improve that, but creating an environment that prohibits honest people from defending themselves can (and will) make it worse.
