To put it mildly, I, as well as a number of close associates and family, was deeply appalled with the scathing criticism of the Utah Symphony's performances April 7 and 8 at Abravanel Hall. We could not imagine what possessed the writer to make such vitriolic comments.
We, on the other hand, were thrilled, excited and filled with awe at the performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 by Fazil Say and the orchestra and the performance of Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 under the direction of Alan Gilbert. The music editor must have been ill or suffering from some other trauma to have written such an undeserved and uncalled-for article. As for me and many others with whom I have talked, the performance on April 7 was absolutely marvelous, and we offer hearty bravos to Mr. Say, Mr. Gilbert and to our wonderful Utah Symphony Orchestra.
