Provo City Parks and Recreation Department needs volunteers to help with the annual Easter Egg Hunt and to plant trees throughout the city.

The 26th Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Trim an Egg Celebration is taking place at 11 a.m., Saturday. Volunteers are needed to help with set up and clean up for the event and to help children decorate eggs during the day. The Easter Egg Hunt is co-sponsored by the Provo Exchange Club.Earlier this year, Provo City set a goal to plant 2,000 new trees before the end of April 2000. Volunteers are still needed to plant trees that will be cared for by property owners.

Additional volunteer opportunities throughout Utah County are listed below.

Volunteer at a local nursing home. Anyone 12 years old or older is encouraged to get involved in being "adopted by a grandparent" by one of the many residents in local nursing home facilities. Volunteers participate in activities such as bingo, crafts, cooking, playing games, reading or helping residents decorate their rooms for special occasions and holidays.

BATS program looking for additional help. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is looking for volunteers to help in the "Behind a Tour Specialist" program. Volunteers will help protect the cave by making sure that people don't touch the walls and formations. They will also help visitors who may feel nervous in enclosed spaces and others who need additional assistance. Volunteers must be 16 years old and capable of hiking the 1.5 mile trail. Training will be provided.

Mentor youths in the community. Concept Key, a program that provides care for school-age children during intercession or after school, needs volunteers to serve as mentors. Volunteers are asked to donate one hour each week between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
