PROVO -- A curling iron left on a bed started a fire Sunday at a Brigham Young University dormitory, leaving six freshmen without an apartment.
The blaze at Elsie C. Carroll Hall, between 900 East and East Campus Drive, caused about $35,000 in damage, said Coy Porter, deputy fire chief.All the personal items of the two women who lived in the dorm room was destroyed. The rest of the apartment was damaged by smoke, Porter said.
The students were at church on Sunday when the fire started. The women called fire crews to the apartment when they returned home at 1:45 p.m.
