BOSTON— Gil Heredia and two relievers combined on a four-hitter, and John Jaha had an RBI single in the sixth inning as the Oakland Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 1-0 on Monday.
Olmedo Saenz went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double for the Athletics, who split the four-game series by winning the annual Patriot's Day game in Boston.
Heredia (1-1), who escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning, allowed three hits, three walks and struck out four. Doug Jones allowed one hit in the eighth and Jason Isringhausen pitched a hitless ninth for his second save.
Jeff Fassero (1-1) allowed one run and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to get the tough-luck loss.
YANKEES 5, RANGERS 4, (11): At Arlington, Texas, Tino Martinez tied the game with an RBI single in the ninth and won it with a run-scoring hit in the 11th as New York held on for a wild win.
The Yankees, who were held hitless into the seventh inning, blew a lead in the 10th and nearly did again in the 11th before getting a favorable call from home plate umpire Jeff Kellogg.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Luis Alicea appeared to foul a ball off his foot. The ball rolled in front of the plate and Kellogg ruled it a fair ball. Catcher Jorge Posada picked it up, stepped on home and tagged Alicea for a double play.
Erdos then got Scott Sheldon to ground out to end the game and earn his first career save.
The Yankees, who swept a two-game series against the Rangers last week, have won 34 of the last 45 games against the Rangers since the opening game of their 1996 playoff series.
Martinez's single to right field with one out in the 11th scored Derek Jeter, who led off the inning with a single off Tim Crabtree (0-1).
Mariano Rivera (1-0) got the win.
BLUE JAYS 7, ANGELS 1: At Toronto, Kelvim Escobar pitched eight strong innings as Toronto recovered from its worst pitching weekend ever.
Brad Fullmer hit a grand slam and Raul Mondesi hit a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who snapped a three-game skid.

MARLINS 6, CUBS 5: At Chicago, Mike Lowell and Derrek Lee drove in two runs apiece as the Florida beat the Cubs in a dinkfest.
The Marlins scored all of their runs on singles. All but one of their 12 hits were on singles, too.
Jesus Sanchez (2-0) gave up five runs — three earned — and six hits in six innings. He struck out nine and walked four. Antonio Alfonseca pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
Kyle Farnsworth (1-2) took the loss.
ROCKIES 9, DIAMONDBACKS 1: At Phoenix, consecutive bunt singles by Larry Walker and Jeff Cirillo highlighted a five-run first inning as Colorado pounded Omar Daal (0-1) and Arizona.
The Rockies, who scored 14 runs without a homer in Sunday night's 14-13 marathon victory over St. Louis, didn't get a home run Monday, either. But they didn't need one to win for the fifth time in six games.
