LAYTON -- A Deseret News police reporter allegedly rammed her car into a police patrol car while driving under the influence of alcohol Monday night, police say.

According to a police report, a man called police about 9:15 p.m. to a residence near 200 West and 1600 North in Layton, saying a woman who "appears drunk" had "slammed into her boyfriend's car twice, which is a Roy police car."The woman got out of her car and began to walk away from the area, the report states. But later she came back to the residence to look at the damage to the car. The Roy police officer, Michael Donehoo, also came out of the house.

When police arrived about 15 minutes later, they administered field sobriety tests to the woman and then "placed her under arrest for DUI," the report states. The woman was taken to the police station where she told police that the incident had resulted from a verbal dispute with Donehoo.

Roy Police Capt. Jack Bell said damage to the police car is estimated from $800 to $1,200.

Amy Joi Bryson, 35, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of criminal mischief and DUI. She was released on $1,855 bail.

"It was a domestic situation that will work its way through the court system," Bryson said.

Deseret News Editor John Hughes said Bryson has been reassigned to a new beat and suspended from work pending clarification of the police investigation.
