BUFFALO, N.Y. — Stu Barnes scored on an off-balance shot 4:42 into overtime as the Buffalo Sabres stayed alive with a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

Curtis Brown and Miroslav Satan each had a goal and assist for the Sabres, who cut the Flyers' best-of-7 series lead to 3-1. The Sabres won despite blowing a 2-0 lead and also overcoming yet another disputed goal.

Game 5 of the first-round Eastern Conference playoff series is Thursday at Philadelphia.

Rick Tocchet and Keith Primeau scored and Mark Recchi had two assists for the Flyers, who have lost eight straight overtime playoff games.

DEVILS 2, PANTHERS 1: At Sunrise, Fla., Brian Rafalski had a goal and an assist and New Jersey moved within one victory of advancing to the second round for the first time in three years with a victory over Florida.

The Devils took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Game 4 in the Eastern Conference playoff series is Thursday at Florida.

Martin Brodeur stopped 21 shots, including 15 in the third period. Mike Vernon made 38 saves for the Panthers, who got a goal from Ray Whitney.

Panthers star Pavel Bure, the NHL's regular-season leader with 58 goals, has yet to score in the series.

STARS 4, OILERS 3: Edmonton, Alberta, Guy Carbonneau scored on a long wrist shot early in the third period, lifting Dallas over Edmonton, despite Bill Guerin's hat trick.

The Stars grabbed a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference playoff series and can advance to the second round with a home victory Friday night.

Brett Hull, Richard Matvichuk and Mike Modano also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Guerin was the second Oilers player to score three goals in a game this series. Captain Doug Weight did it in Edmonton's victory in Game 3 on Sunday.
