Heat 97, Raptors 73
MIAMI — Pat Riley is one win away from 1,000.
Jamal Mashburn scored 16 points and keyed a third-quarter rally that propelled Miami past the Toronto Raptors 97-73 Tuesday night, giving Heat coach Riley his 999th regular-season victory.
If Miami beats host Charlotte in Wednesday's season finale, Riley would become the second NBA coach to hit the four-figure milestone. Atlanta's Lenny Wilkens has 1,179 career wins.
Riley's overall record is 999-433, a .698 winning percentage, with Miami, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks.
Anthony Carter led the Heat, who never trailed, with 17 points.
KNICKS 100, PISTONS 88: At New York, Detroit failed to clinch the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, losing in a game that meant almost nothing to New York.
HAWKS 111, NETS 109, 2OT: At Atlanta, Lorenzo Wright scored four of Atlanta's six points in the second overtime and blocked a potential tying layup by New Jersey's Keith Van Horn at the buzzer.
It was the Nets' 10th straight loss. Van Horn led New Jersey with 24 points.
HORNETS 103, CAVALIERS 88: At Cleveland, David Wesley scored 23 points, including 14 in the third quarter, to spark Charlotte, which has won six straight and 13 of 15.
Wesley scored the first four points of a 9-0 run that put Charlotte firmly in command at 79-63 late in the third quarter.
CELTICS 114, WIZARDS 81: At Washington, in a game between losing teams playing out the string, Boston led from start to finish.
76ERS 93, BULLS 89: At Chicago, Aaron McKie made three free throws in the last 24 seconds as Philadelphia, without Allen Iverson, barely kept its hopes alive for first-round home-court advantage in the playoffs.
MAVERICKS 112, LAKERS 102: At Dallas, Michael Finley scored 25 points and Steve Nash 23 as Dallas ended its 19-game losing streak against the Lakers. Dallas last beat Los Angeles on April 5, 1995.
ROCKETS 107, SUNS 98: At Phoenix, Shandon Anderson tied his career high with 35 points as Houston hurt Phoenix's bid for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
TRAIL BLAZERS 116, CLIPPERS 100: At Los Angeles, Steve Smith scored 24 points and Scottie Pippen had 18 as Portland extended the Clippers' losing streak to 17 games.
