ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues took another step towards finishing first overall in the NHL, playing a scoreless tie against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

Roman Turek stopped 17 shots for the Blues, who lead the league with a franchise-record 109 points. Chris Osgood made 29 stops for the Red Wings, who are second overall with 106 points and shut out the Blues on the road for the second time.

It was the first scoreless tie in 199 meetings between the teams, who missed their leading scorers. Detroit's Steve Yzerman was out with a sprained knee, St. Louis' Pavol Demitra is recovering from a concussion.

FLYERS 3, PENGUINS 2: At Pittsburgh, John LeClair and Keith Primeau each scored a goal and set up another and Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh for the second time in a week.

Philadelphia won for only the third time in 22 games in Pittsburgh since the 1991-92 season.

BRUINS 2, RANGERS 2: At Boston, Michael York scored with 80 seconds left in regulation and the New York Rangers forged a tie with Boston. The draw, however, eliminated both teams from the playoffs.

John Tortorella, a Rangers assistant, coached his first game in place of John Muckler, who was fired Tuesday. The Rangers are 1-8-2 in 11 games and have been outscored 20-5 in their last four.

KINGS 2, MIGHTY DUCKS 1: At Los Angeles, Kelly Buchberger scored on Los Angeles' first shot — 24 minutes and 29 seconds in — and Ian Laperriere got the game-winner as the Kings clinched a playoff berth.

The Kings, who extended their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) despite getting outshot 26-18, advanced to the postseason for only the second time since losing in the 1993 Stanley Cup finals.

ISLANDERS 2, BLACKHAWKS 2: At Uniondale, N.Y., Tony Amonte scored his second goal of the game with 54.2 seconds left in regulation to give Chicago a tie with the New York Islanders.

New York's Kevin Weekes made a career-high 47 saves to help the Islanders gain their first point at home since beating Buffalo on March 4. Mariusz Czerkawski and Brad Isbister scored for New York.

SABRES 2, CANADIENS 0: At Montreal, Michael Peca scored the game-winner in his return to the lineup and Dominik Hasek made 27 saves as Buffalo beat Montreal, moving the Sabres ahead of the Canadiens into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Each team has four games left in the regular season, Buffalo has 79 points while Montreal and Carolina each have 78.

MAPLE LEAFS 4, CAPITALS 3: At Washington, a battle of division leaders produced a wild, thrill-a-minute game, with Toronto holding off Washington.

The victory moved Northeast Division-leading Toronto (96 points) within one point of Southeast Division-leading Washington (97) in the seeding race for the Eastern Conference playoffs. New Jersey leads the Atlantic Division with 99 points.

LIGHTNING 3, PANTHERS 3: At Sunrise, Fla., Scott Mellanby scored with 1:36 remaining in regulation as Florida rallied from two goals down to tie Tampa Bay.

Mike Johnson scored a pair of goals and had an assist for Tampa Bay in the physical contest. Vincent Lacavalier added a pair of assists for the Lightning. Todd Warriner also scored.

The Panthers pulled within four points of Washington for the Southeast Division title.

FLAMES 3, SHARKS 0: At Calgary, Alberta, Fred Brathwaite was spectacular in making 29 saves and the Calgary Flames earned a much-needed victory.

Vincent Damphousse, Jeff Friesen and Todd Harvey were among the Sharks thwarted on acrobatic saves by Brathwaite, who collected his fifth shutout of the season.

OILERS 4, COYOTES 3 (OT): At Edmonton, Alberta, despite giving up three third-period goals, the Oilers managed to leave the ice victorious — though it took an extra session to get it done.
