UtahSOFTBALL: The Utes swept the San Diego State Aztecs at home in a MWC softball matchup Saturday.
Utah won 1-0 and 7-3 to move to 30-20 overall and 10-4 in the MWC. San Diego State is now 27-23 overall, 9-5 in the MWC.
Senior Sunny Smith hit a solo home run in the first inning and was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI in the first game. She continues to break Utah's single-season record for home runs with the record now at 15.
In game two, San Diego State scored first but the Utes came right back with two runs of their own. In the bottom of the second inning, Utah's Molly McLean hit her first home run of the season -- a two-run shot -- that put Utah up by two. She finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Utah plays Southern Utah Wednesday in a single-game contest at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
In action Friday, Utah rallied in bottom of the eighth with a run-scoring single to right field by Lyndsey Trevis that drove in Lisa Hashimoto for a 7-6 win and a doubleheader split with UNLV.

BASEBALL: Reliever Nate Fernley picked up his sixth save of the season Friday to lead visiting BYU to an 8-6 victory over the Air Force Academy.
MEN'S TENNIS: Despite having won the only previous meeting between the two teams this season, fourth-seeded BYU lost 4-1 to top-seeded San Diego State Friday in the second round of the Mountain West Conference tournament in Albuquerque, N.M.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Channell Rose, Julie Whetton and Maria Goldsmith have signed letters of intent to play for BYU next season.

SOFTBALL: The Aggies were narrowly defeated by Long Beach State in a doubleheader Friday at LBSU with scores of 1-0 and 4-1 to fall to 5-9 in the Big West and 17-29 overall.
Weber State
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Wildcats derailed three-time defending champion Northern Arizona in the championship match of the Big Sky Conference championships in Pocatello. With the victory, Weber State earns a bid to the NCAA Tennis Championships, May 20-28 at the University of Georgia.
Southern Utah
BASEBALL: SUU fell victim to timely hitting by Oral Roberts and rain showers Saturday in Cedar City. ORU won the first game of a scheduled doubleheader before weather scrapped the nightcap. The Thunderbirds return to action next weekend at IUPUI.
