Rachel Schiess Christensen, 100, passed away at her home in Providence on April 21, 2000.

Born August 9, 1899 in Providence, Utah to John K. and Katherine Gessel Schiess.She married Arnold F. Christensen, February 21, in 1923 in the Logan LDS Temple, going in a horse drawn sleigh. They were the parents of nine children.

She graduated 8th grade from Providence Elementary School. Rachel has been an active member of the LDS Church all her life serving as the Primary secretary for 25 years and as a visiting teacher till the age of 95. She loved music and one of the highlights of her life was singing in a relief society choir for General Conference in the tabernacle in Salt Lake City.

She enjoyed handiwork, especially quilting. Over the years making hundreds of hand pieced quilts for her family and friends. Her love for flowers was evident by her attractive garden and yard. Until the age of 99, she could be seen working in her garden.

Survived by her children: Florence Holtshouser, Salt Lake City; Arnold J. Christensen, Wellsville; David C. Christensen, Nibley; Wesley D. Christensen, Hibbard, ID; Kathryn Widman, Parkdale, Oregon; Ivan F. Christensen, Providence; Owen D. Christensen, Wellsville; Ralph S. Christensen, Toquerville; and Lynn R. Christensen, Washington, UT; two sisters, Ruth Hansen, Amalga; and Margaret Christiansen, Camby, OR; 47 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren, including four sets of twins; and four great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; husband; brothers, John (Jack), Fredrick (Fritz); and sisters, Lillie Sears, Olive and Florence Schiess.

A viewing will be Tuesday, April 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary and Wednesday, April 26 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Providence Church. Services will be held Wed. April 26 at 12 noon in the Providence 4th Ward Chapel, 155 N. 100 E., Providence, UT. Burial, Providence City Cemetery.
