HARTFORD, Il-- Betty L. Sumner, 70, of Hartford, passed away Saturday April 22, 2000 at 1 p.m. at her residence.

She was born July 15, 1929 in Hartford, the daughter of the late Mike and Ona (Fletcher) Schiber. She graduated from Alton Memorial School of Nursing in 1950, then worked as a registered nurse in various areas 21 years until moving to Utah, where she worked at the Tooele Valley Nursing Home for 25 years before retiring in 1996.She had been an original board member of the Village of Hartford Public Library and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Scott and Brenda McBride of Tooele, UT; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Malcolm Moore of Decatur, IL; Lisa and Rus Findlay of Alexandria, AL; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Stephen and Sarah Moore, all of Decatur; Lindsay McBride of Alexandria, AL; Miranda, Kylee and Shayla McBride of Tooele, UT; three step-grandchildren, Rusty, Misty and Tessie Findlay of Palm Bay, FL; a great-grandson, Travis Lindsey of Alexandria, AL; a brother, Robert L. Schiber of Hartford; and her former husband, Joe McBride of Roxana. A brother, James M. Schiber, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Marks Mortuary (633 E. Lorena Ave., Wood River, IL 62095) in Wood River.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Fr. Roger Schoenhofen will preside. Burial will be in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana, IL.
